Our Place in the World: video

This is a fairly low-res version of a more sophisticated and attractive Powerpoint program I'll be delivering several times in the Fall of 2007. I'll narrate live while some sixty of my digital images illustrate the three shorter pieces of text here (two of them from Slow Road Home) that have to do with our relationship to nature and the land. (Fifteen minutes)

I hope you enjoy it. Comments welcomed, and speaking engagements too!

Just what I had imagined - it all fits so well and your voice is part of the whole an dnot merely avoice over.

There are 3 films here - I am learning at KETC that 6 mins is about the longest that will stick on the web

They make up a beautiful and coherent whole

If you posted them on You Tube I am sure that you would get a large audience - they tell of a truth that once you hear/see - it hits you.

I have just read "On Killing" by LTC Dave Grossman - he informs us that it become easy to kill when there is emotional and physical distance - this is surely one of your points? Most people are entirely separated from the Natural World. It is also maybe too late to get connected later in life.

I so recall being punished by being sent to my room too. My sister and I ran like wild things.

Finally "Home" I think that in all of us is a longing for Home - the tragedy of our time is that most are so distracted by the Sirens they can't hear the call.

Fred - what I find that the film does is mobilize these truths that a book alone cannot - it is when you show me with your voice, that I see best

There are pauses in the audio even using 1.5M broadband while the audio download catches up. My guess is that your audio track is uncompresses .wav file. You may want to try compressing to mp3. A good free tool to do this is audacity. Google will get you there

I watched it twice and sent the link to several people who will appreciate it. This essay certainly gives you a lot to think about and confirms what I know to be true.
